Campaign speech-y with its careful, likability-calculating sensibilities。 More of a politician's hyper-polished pitch for support than a raw, sprawling biographical account。 Certainly not bad; just obviously manipulative, limited to vignettes and elements of its subject's life that cultivate a positive, pleasant image of strength, wisdom, and leadership。 Campaign speech-y with its careful, likability-calculating sensibilities。 More of a politician's hyper-polished pitch for support than a raw, sprawling biographical account。 Certainly not bad; just obviously manipulative, limited to vignettes and elements of its subject's life that cultivate a positive, pleasant image of strength, wisdom, and leadership。 。。。more

This book was well-written by a tenacious, hard-working woman I deeply admire。 I don’t know how she does what she does, and has done, throughout her entire career: working hard for the underdog, speaking truth to power, facing so many difficult and complex issues head on。。。I can’t really say I enjoyed it, though。 Honestly, I found it to be pretty depressing。 I don’t know why the advocacy for justice, equality, kindness, love, and societal well-being has to always seem like an uphill battle。 😔

I enjoyed this book, but was hoping for more of a memoir。

I needed to complete this book before then Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris took office。 I finished it on January 19, 2021。 This book is a good summary of her childhood, the importance of family, and her political views。 I'm curious to see how closely her political views in other offices play out in her role as Vice President。This book gave me perspective on her roles, the actions, and why decisions are made。 As someone in a leadership position, sometimes we have to make decisions that others I needed to complete this book before then Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris took office。 I finished it on January 19, 2021。 This book is a good summary of her childhood, the importance of family, and her political views。 I'm curious to see how closely her political views in other offices play out in her role as Vice President。This book gave me perspective on her roles, the actions, and why decisions are made。 As someone in a leadership position, sometimes we have to make decisions that others may not understand because of our view of all the parts。 I feel as though sometimes she is criticized for her decisions, but when you read this book, it puts many of those decisions into perspective。 This is a good book to read to understand her life's achievements and the important role she plays in political history。 。。。more

I find that I usually steer clear of books surrounding politics - they're just not my forte。 But this one was well written and in a simple language such that a non American can easily follow and understand how the legal and political system in USA works。I thought in chapter 3, titled 'Wedding Bells', she would spill all the tea, but alas! The disappointment。 🙆‍♀️😁 It has everything to do with weddings but nothing to do with her own 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️😁Infact Kamala barely talks of her personal life through I find that I usually steer clear of books surrounding politics - they're just not my forte。 But this one was well written and in a simple language such that a non American can easily follow and understand how the legal and political system in USA works。I thought in chapter 3, titled 'Wedding Bells', she would spill all the tea, but alas! After reading this book, I'm even more proud to call Kamala Harris my vice president。 What an amazing woman。 She doesn't back down from a battle and seems to truly care about the people she's representing。 The book also made me upset about how shitty things are in this country for a lot of people。 I'm glad that we have Kamala to help try to make improvements where she can。 After reading this book, I'm even more proud to call Kamala Harris my vice president。 What an amazing woman。 She doesn't back down from a battle and seems to truly care about the people she's representing。 The book also made me upset about how shitty things are in this country for a lot of people。 I'm glad that we have Kamala to help try to make improvements where she can。 。。。more

Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! This book was amazing and so incredibly inspiring。 I am not sure if I loved this book because I am a die-hard feminist and I love seeing a successful women's story。 Being a young girl who wants to possibly go into politics to see women finally be coming into a large power position makes me feel like I am listened to and represented。 To read the obstacles that Kamala Harris went through to become where she is is not an easy path to take。 I love that she can represent peop Wow! I am even more impressed with her now than I was。 We are so fortunate to have her as a Vice President。 Hopefully in a few years we will have the brains and common sense that was lost during the "Trump" fiasco and elect Kamala Harris as President。 I am even more impressed with her now than I was。 We are so fortunate to have her as a Vice President。 Hopefully in a few years we will have the brains and common sense that was lost during the "Trump" fiasco and elect Kamala Harris as President。 。。。more

If I had it to do over, I'd more strongly consider the audiobook (Gasp! Me, the AUDIOBOOK?!) since Kamala reads it。However, it's a wonderfully written journey with a great voice。It's nominally linear with some well constructed forays outside of a strictly linear timeline。But, it's really well done with the most concentrated exploration of some of Kamala's choices and interests that I have personally delved into。 If I had it to do over, I'd more strongly consider the audiobook (Gasp! I am a big fan of Kamala’s policy, but I was disappointed by this book。 It lacked a through line。 It felt more like a list of things she has achieved rather than a coherent story。 That being said, she brought up some really important issues。

I wasn't sure what to expect from this, but I'm so glad I read it。 I obviously should've been much more informed than I was as Kamala recently ran for VP, but better late than never。 After finishing this, I can say I'm a fan of her policies, ideas, and the morality that guides her through her life (or so it seems from this book。 I guess we can't ever be truly sure)。 I think, whatever her policies, that she's an inspiring woman and a wonderful role model, especially for those us who aren't on the I wasn't sure what to expect from this, but I'm so glad I read it。 I obviously should've been much more informed than I was as Kamala recently ran for VP, but better late than never。 After finishing this, I can say I'm a fan of her policies, ideas, and the morality that guides her through her life (or so it seems from this book。 I guess we can't ever be truly sure)。 I think, whatever her policies, that she's an inspiring woman and a wonderful role model, especially for those us who aren't on the baby train。 I'm looking forward to seeing what all she'll accomplish in her political career。 。。。more

Our book club selection this month。 Pros: a remarkable career, an approachable personality (we would like to be her friend), and good explanations of issues。 Cons: reads too much like a platform for her candidacy for President (which I guess it was), very little "I messed up and learned" which I would expect from a memoir。 Our book club selection this month。 Pros: a remarkable career, an approachable personality (we would like to be her friend), and good explanations of issues。 Cons: reads too much like a platform for her candidacy for President (which I guess it was), very little "I messed up and learned" which I would expect from a memoir。 。。。more

This books reads like a campaign speech。 I wanted more of a tell all book but instead got a rehashing of how great she was as AG or a senator - I know, I voted for you! I think she has way more to put down in words than was provided here。

Kamala Harris' story of how she became a lawyer, prosecutor/District Attorney, Senator。 The story stops before she runs for President。 It tells her views of key societal issues that she has had to deal with as a district attorney and in her own life。 Also key issues in the Senate including hearings for Justice of the U。S。 Supreme Court, and in her other Senate committees。 I heard the audio book which was read by the author。 Kamala Harris' story of how she became a lawyer, prosecutor/District Attorney, Senator。 The story stops before she runs for President。 It tells her views of key societal issues that she has had to deal with as a district attorney and in her own life。 Also key issues in the Senate including hearings for Justice of the U。S。 Supreme Court, and in her other Senate committees。 I heard the audio book which was read by the author。 。。。more

Kamala Harris has plumbed the truths of America in her profound book。 She has pondered over seemingly picayune questions, and called out people for holding unhealthy and unconscionable bias for white people。 She has called out the Trump administration for its inhumane policies, and the disturbing disparity between the life expectancy of colored and white people, consequently revealing the flaws of the healthcare industry。 She is concerned about the skyrocketing cost of American education, and th Kamala Harris has plumbed the truths of America in her profound book。 She has pondered over seemingly picayune questions, and called out people for holding unhealthy and unconscionable bias for white people。 She has called out the Trump administration for its inhumane policies, and the disturbing disparity between the life expectancy of colored and white people, consequently revealing the flaws of the healthcare industry。 She is concerned about the skyrocketing cost of American education, and the cost of living。 She empathizes, and dreams about the American dream with the people of America, and anyone else who dreams that dream。 Needless to say, at every turn of the page, she believes in America。 And that people are fundamentally good, stuck in the roil of bad policies perpetuated by unfortunate people with bad mindsets。 Above all, she is what she says - a person who can not be put down。 She is a joyful warrior in every sense of those words。 And that is inspiring。 Because as she puts it - the challenges we face in the future will be new and nuanced, and they will require us to mobilize based on being smart, not on being afraid。 Therefore, we can not lose sight of who we are, and who we can be。 。。。more

I enjoyed learning about her upbringing and her family life。 It was heart-warming to read how how much she lived her mother and how proud she was of her。 I like reading about her career-she’s clearly an accomplished attorney and politician- but it wasn’t as interesting。

Interesting read on her views on politics and plenty of personal life with her mom and sisters, but other relationships were sparse。 I found it a little dry, most of her "causes" I've heard a lot about so there wasn't that much new information apart from the bank's with the mortgage fraud。 I also found it a little disturbing her account of the 2016 voter fraud, because if she said was true, and we are using the same machines, how can we ever be sure of a vote? I absolutely enjoy reading and listening “The Truth we hold” diversity in leadership is critical to advance a powerful nation like the US, I’m impressed how much she admired her mother and her life experience。 I look forward to read something more from her when she had time to write。

Insightful autobiographical book, particularly for those who want to appreciate the values and experiences of our current VPOTUS。 It’s too easy to see only what the media portrays, and this book adds a human dimension。 I recommend this book。 Be prepared for some digs against alternative political perspectives and personalities, but be open to the logic of how Harris arrived to how she passionately feels about her role in the world。

I’m not usually crazy about political memoirs (I get lost in the politics), but Harris writes in such a way that it’s less about politics and more about loving people well through her political roles。 I couldn’t put this book down!! She is an absolutely exceptional person—warm, deeply compassionate, funny, and brilliant。 Her life story is fascinating and inspiring to say the least。 I wish everyone would read this book!

I’d say this was more a 2。5 star read for me personally。 Am I excited about Kamala Harris representing the first woman of color in the Oval Office? Yes! Am I a big fan of her politically?
